Parents' Bill of Rights

Empowered LLC is committed to protecting the privacy and security of student data. In accordance with FERPA and New York State’s Ed Law 2-D, we have established the following Parents’ Bill of Rights to outline your rights and our obligations regarding your child’s personally identifiable information (PII).

1. Right to Access Educational Records: Parents and eligible students have the right to inspect and review their child’s educational records. Empowered LLC is committed to fulfilling access requests within 45 calendar days. Requests can be made by contacting our Data Protection Officer.
2. Right to Request Amendment of Records: If you believe that any information in your child’s educational records is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights, you have the right to request an amendment. Empowered LLC will respond promptly.
3. Right to Privacy and Control over Data Sharing: Your child’s PII will only be disclosed with your explicit written consent, except in circumstances where FERPA or Ed Law 2-D permits disclosure without consent.
4. Security of Student Data: Empowered LLC implements strict security protocols to ensure that your child’s PII is protected.
5. Protection Against Unauthorized Access: Access to your child’s PII is strictly limited to authorized personnel and contractors who comply with all applicable laws and standards.
6. Breach Notification: In the event of a data breach involving your child’s PII, Empowered LLC will notify you promptly, detailing the nature of the breach and steps taken to address it.
7. Parents’ Rights to Information Regarding Data Use: Parents are entitled to know what types of PII are collected and how it is used.
8. Consent for Data Collection and Use: Empowered LLC will obtain parental consent when collecting any PII that goes beyond educational necessities.
